RFC 2544:


  • Throughput finds the highest rate at which the DUT can forward frames.
  • Frame Loss tests how the DUT responds to streams with different gaps separating the frames.
  • Back-To-back tests how the DUT responds to different quantities of frames, with the frames separated by the minimum gap allowed by the protocol specifications.
  • Latency reveals how much processing overhead the DUT requires to forward frames.

For example, for the Throughput test, you can specify the frame rate and t duration, and the test calculates the number of frames to transmit. The three parameters interact according to the following formula:
Duration = Number of Frames / Frame Rate
